Thirteen-year-old Sophie is a child of the financial crisis. She is Latvian but has grown up in Rjukan, a small Norwegian town tucked between
the mountains, where the sun rarely shines. There, her mother juggles several cleaning jobs to make ends meet, while Sophie pours herself into music, dreaming of becoming a drummer. Her life changes abruptly when she stumbles upon a secret: the father she never knew is alive in Latvia. She runs away to Riga to find him and meets Rihards, who is the opposite of the adults she has known in Norway: an untamed free spirit still searching for his purpose. Sophie is eager to get to know him, but as Rihards’s deep-rooted traumas resurface, she finds that a relationship with her father may come at an unexpected cost.
